SmarterScience was founded by me - a Dutch woman - in 1997.

I am a geologist and marine biogeochemist as well as a science and technology writer and editor.

I have lived and worked in several countries, including the wonderful United States of America.

I have always offered my insights and skills together with the benefit of my wide range of experience to clients from all over the world such as engineering companies and individual scientists. I wanted to help them succeed. You can read the story below.

The story of SmarterScience

The idea for SmarterScience hatched after one of my colleagues at VU University Amsterdam commented - with some envy - that he no longer had the time to read all the science literature and keep up with the latest developments.

So I launched SmarterScience as a sort of extra set of brains for hire. The idea was to save my university colleagues some time, and help them succeed in spite of the ever-growing workload on their plates. I offered them a smarter way to do science. I helped them be the best they could be.

The initial logo was a nine-banded armadillo, chosen because of the uniqueness and survivor mentality of the species.

Like any business, SmarterScience evolved so I also ended up working for publishers, engineering companies and similar organizations including startups. They all have in common that they require and apply science and technology knowledge.

My mission is still to help people succeed, but my approach is changing greatly. I currently only offer scientific editing. Also, this used to be a very large web site, and it no longer is.
